What is my expectation of a relationship? I suddenly come up with such a
topic while I was in the middle of the shower.

A Beautiful Mind tell us a story about a mathematician who has
schizophrenia gains a beautiful life in the final.
Schizophrenia is a mental disorder characterized by a breakdown of
thought processes and by a deficit of typical emotional responses.
Common symptoms include auditory hallucinations, paranoid or bizarre
delusion, or disorganized speech and thinking, and it’s accomplished by
significant social or occasional dysfunction. The onset of symptoms
typically occurs in young adulthood, with a global lifetime prevalence
of about 0.3%-0.7%. diagnosis is based on observed behavior and the
patient’s reported experiences.
The diagnostic hallmarks of schizophrenia are delusions, hallucinations,
and disorganized thinking(speech), grossly disorganized or abnormal
motor behavior (including catatonia), and negative symptoms.
Hallucinations
Hallucinations are perception-like experiences that occur without an
external stimulus. John Nash gave himself a Charles Herman, his prodigal
roommate, a hallucinogenic company since his college began. Charles
Herman was a created roommate in his mind who could do the things he
never dare to do, encourage him when he was upset, share his sadness and
happiness with him, and even be a Russia spy to hurt him in mind.
The first time he saw Charles was at around five min in the movie when
he was looking down through the window. They had a deep talk in which
Nash told Charles almost everything about him, like he wasn’t an
adorable person and his dream that to be a matter. He felt anxious and
worried when he could not figure out his original theory but his
classmates all published their paper. The intimate roommate comforted
him, pushed his desk downstairs and encouraged him to think it over in
the first place. When he was embarrassed by chatting with girls, his
roommate showed up to support him. “I especially liked the bit about
fluid exchange.” Actually, this is a sentence in his own mind, but we
still can see, Nash liked this guy. That is why when he found Charles
was a spy he felt so sad and he couldn’t accept the truth. He couldn’t
help talking to the man in early treatment duration who was his best
friend ever when he recognized he was a hallucination. We can see
Charles showed up at 5,10,14,17,23,49,63,68,98,111 min, almost
all the time except the working duration.
Marce, Charles’ niece, joined in his life at 49 min with Charles’
return. She had never done anything to him but an evidence to show that
Charles and herself were hallucinations in his mind.
William Parcher is his imagery boss in Department of Defense. He said
“Two trips to the Pentagon in four years…the Russians have the H-bomb,
the Nazis are repatriating south American, the Chinese have a standing
army of 2.8 million, and I am doing stress tests on a dam.” He longed to
be a matter doing the work were extremely important for his country, but
the reality was not the same. So he created a tense work for nation. I
guess in this work, he could feel that he was the man most significant
and he was needed by everyone in this country. The lack of being needed
and feeling of success leaded him to create William. This is also the
direct reason that he developed persecutory delusions. William showed up
at 32 min and gave him a task to break the code which involving military
secrecy between Russia and America. They implanted a radium
diode(actually Nash found it was not real by hurting himself at 76 min).
This imagery guy was dangerous because he made Nash involved into a
chasing at 55 min and ordered him to finish his wife at 98 min.
Delusions
The persecutory, referential, somatic, religious, grandiose delusions.
Nash didn’t have these kinds of delusions before he created a William
Parcher when he was working for Wheeler Lab. He was urge to do some
matter. And because his imagery working is dangerous, so he began to
remain in a state of apprehension. At 41 min, he found there was someone
monitoring him, at 46 min a car followed him, at 55 min there was a car
chasing him which totally scared him. After the chasing he became
watchout and extremely suspicious. He looked outside when he heard the
sounds of cars even in his class. He thought about someone tried to kill
him on the Harvard university national mathematics conference (at this
point he was diagnosed. ) and watched figure moving in his home and
William tried to kill Alicia when she was calling doctor.
Disorganized Thinking (Speech)
The disorganized speech happened because of his hallucinations. When he
talked to Charles, William, or Marcee, other people was watching a scene
that a man was talking to himself loudly and having strange behavior.
Grossly Disorganized or Abnormal Motor Behavior (Including Catatonia)
Nash wasn’t in that condition until William Parcher came into his
mind.
Negative Symptoms
I don’t think he has this kind of symptoms.
Real and unreal things
Figure out what is accurate is difficult for a man who has
schizophrenia. But Nash did. He didn’t know the Charles, William and
Marcee were inaccurate until they were in his home at the same time, and
forced him to finish his wife. The force made him find Marcee had never
grown up and distinguished they were all imagination in his mind. After
he work out the truth, he tried to keep away from them, including the
best friend he ever had. The goodbye made me so sad. “Charles, you’ve
been a very good friend to me, the best. But I won’t talk to you again.”
It means he could tell what was real and what was not real. Even though
the three guys were showing up in his life everyday, even though he
wanted to talk to Charles and Marcee, he made it. He said ”I still see
the things are not here, I just choose not to acknowledge them, like a
diet of the mind, I choose not to indulge certain appetites.” He also
asked a girl if she could see a man calling his name, it means he knew
someone he had never met might be a hallucination.
Stigma
Stigma was everywhere. Since the Harvard university national mathematics
conference, everyone knew Nash was a crazy man. Walking in the campus,
studying in the library, he should stand people’s staring. He was
working for Wheeler, once he was diagnosed, he lost his job, even though
there was no difference between present and the past. Stigma made him
lose his job and friends. Bendar was afraid to meet him, and Sol showed
a scary face when he was kidding him there was another man. The Noble
Prize Committee sent a person to check if he would screw everything up
if he actually won.
Critically evaluate the media (accurate events)
This movie is a documentary, so it is almost the accurate things. In
this movie, his wife and friends were always by his sides. Even though I
know the reality is not so beautiful. The true Nash is a poor guy for
his wife broke up with him after making sense about his schizophrenia.
However, there is a mathematician with schizophrenia mind, he has a
beautiful wife loving him with her heart and soul. When she decided to
marry him, she decided to company him all life long and trust her
husband. When she knew her lover was sick, she didn’t leave, she stayed
at home waiting for him. She was patient and gentle. When Nash could not
give her response, she got angry, but still stay there. When Nash hurt
her(even though he didn’t mean that), she still stay there. She said to
Nash in movie:”you want to know what is real? You, me, my heart, maybe
the part that knows the waking from dream. Maybe isn’t in your brain,
it’s in your heart. I need to believe that something extraordinary is
possible.” The great love between a normal woman and an abnormal man is
the great example to decrease the stigma. And friend, Sol always cared
about him and Alicia, gave them help, and Martin let him in campus to
teach and when he was in paroxysm, hold him and encouraging him rather
than escaping away. The sick person won Nobel Prize in the end, and said
to the whole world ”It is only in the mysterious equations of love, that
any logical reasons can be found.” What a successful life! These scenes
are all trying to decrease stigma. And the whole movie is not only tell
us a story about a mathematician, it also tell us that the mentally sick
people can have courage to live, they are not horrible, they are vivid
human and they can live a beautiful life. I think this is what A
Beautiful Mind wants to teach us.

…Happiness? Maybe.

1。 Become a happy-go-lucky person。

Case is that, I met such a guy. This guy has a special attraction to me,
some kind of poisionous aspect, that made me fell for him. He’s a
gentleman make no mistake. He’s also a humorous guy and a very talented
person. He might be a bit passive about lilve, but he is rather focused
on his unfulfilled dream, which I believe he would one day become a very
fabulous soul mate in life.

I went to a local San Francisco bar to hang out with one of my best
friends。 My friend was talking to this girl with a body shaped like an
hourglass and long black hair peacocked with a purple stripe。

I actually don’t know how to describe our relationship. I mean, we
literally count as “friends”:

自个儿和一个最佳的爱侣相约去布宜诺斯艾利斯地面包车型大巴一家酒馆。笔者朋友和多个女孩聊天,她身姿美妙,长长的黑发焗着分明的莲红条纹。

…We seldom talk if we are not hanging out together or something he
needs to know from me.

She was sitting next to a guy who wore baggy clothes and didn’t bother
to comb his hair。

…We barely “date”, and each time it was me who took the initiative and
the control of everything.

to comb his hair。

…We do not know each other very deep like we think we do.

As a good friend, I decided to keep this guy’s attention so my best
friend could mingle undisturbed with the cute girl。 I assumed from the
tone of his voice and mannerisms that he was gay。 I barely have to put
in energy to wingman this scenario。 Within a couple of minutes, I
noticed I was wrong。

…We simply just hang out, visit some shops and sightseeings, have
meals together, then bid goodbye and go back home.

I don’t need anyone to tell me that this guy is not that into me. I
totally and comprehensively get this. It’s quite obvious. We were like
toys (or tools) of each other, so that we could spend time playing
together, have some fun without engaging into a fixed relationship,
which would cut the freedom of ourselves.

2.This guy had charmed me/这一个男孩把自家吸引住了。

Sometimes, I do desire a boyfriend. A real boyfriend. Not a boy friend.
I have quite a lot of male friends and definately know not to cross the
line and not to break the friendship. These friends give me many
different meanings in my life and made me feel that I was not that
unattractive or hateful.

He had the widest smile and a happy-go-lucky attitude。 He kept
complimenting me by telling me great things about my energy and
attitude。 “Josh, there’s something about you – such positive energy。
You’re a great guy to hang out with。” I thanked him over and again。
Coming out of my daze, I noticed his hand was on the girl’s leg。 I
quickly realized two things:

2。 This guy had charmed me。

But I just fell for this guy.

I am going to spend another 10 more years to fell in love with someone
who’s not going to love me back. I already tired of this silly thing and
I regreted it for last few years. I thought this would be a bit
difficult for me to actually accept someone, or let myself drown into
another time-wasting fancy.

1)He’s not gay

He had the widest smile and a happy-go-lucky attitude。 He kept
complimenting me by telling me great things about my energy and
attitude。 “Josh, there’s something about you – such positive energy。
You’re a great guy to hang out with。” I thanked him over and again。
Coming out of my daze, I noticed his hand was on the girl’s leg。 I
quickly realized two things:

This guy is really amazing and know how to get the likes and loves from
girls. He is not that kind of playboy, although he did smoke. He is not
tall, but he has his fashion sense in styling. He knows a lot about
various things and could make personal comments regarding each of them.
I appreaciate him, from both personality and wisdom.

I know I looked foolish talking like that. As we all know, 2 people
makes a relationship. If I want to know his real thoughts, I should
probably call him ( yea, I got his phone number 3 years after I knew
him… and it was done on yesterday) or ask him out for further
investigation. In the end, I decided to zip it and close the file. I
actually quite enjoy this kind of “friend”, easy come easy go, no
responsibility, no commitment, no future, so gone with the wind. Since I
am too young and too naive, maybe too agressive and too eager for a
relationship to fill the sparetime moment of my life in Shanghai. Or
maybe I was just too lonely? I already know that I am going to be alone
for the rest of my life. I really don’t believe that there’s one guy
that would meet my expectation of a soul mate, and most important thing
is that, I just can not trust anyone other than myself. Pathetic.

2)He knows exactly what he’s doing

1)He’s not gay

As we talked further, I asked him, “How do you charm people so well?”
He responded, “I’m a professional。” Then he whispered in my ear, “I
just picked this girl up at a strip club。” He proceeded to explain how
he regularly goes out and meets many women and makes countless new
friends。

2)He knows exactly what he’s doing

I was only partially convinced of his backstory until this happened…

We were thinking of jumping over to another bar, so we went outside to
order an Uber。 The girl took off to the bathroom。 This wide-smiled guy
looked at my best friend and me, and then glanced at a group of girls
next to us。 Without hesitation, he walked over and began talking to
them。

happened…

I observed。 He used his happy-go-lucky attitude to charm them。 In less
than a minute, he had already kissed one of them。 I was stunned。 This
guy gets it。 He didn’t pull any fancy lines。 He just acted like the
world was on his side。 And by doing so, it was。
